About Scroll
Scroll is a phone app that teaches personal finance in lessons of about a minute, each followed by one question. This site holds free calculators and longer guides. Here's who makes them and how.
Who makes Scroll
Wilson Mucheke
Founder of Scroll
Wilson Mucheke founded Scroll and runs the app and this website.
Scroll is operated by SyncLabs. Questions, corrections and press requests go to hello@scrollfinance.app.
What the app is
950+ lessons across nine topics, from what comes off a paycheck to pensions, property and scams. Each lesson takes 45 to 100 seconds to read and ends with a multiple-choice question. The app is set up for 23 countries: you get your own currency, your country's tax rules in the calculators, and lessons on the accounts available where you live.
Scroll never connects to a bank. It doesn't see transactions or ask for account details, and it isn't a budgeting tracker, a broker or an advice service.
How the guides and calculators on this site are made
- Sources first. Figures that come from rules (tax bands, contribution limits, allowances) are taken from the government, regulator or central bank that sets them, and each page links them in its Sources section with the date we checked.
- Shown working. Calculator pages explain the formula and work it through with the default numbers. The maths is covered by automated tests that compare it with hand calculations.
- Dated. Each page shows when it was last updated. When a rule changes, we update the page and the date; when the IRS, HMRC or another authority publishes next year's figures, the pages that use them are updated.
- Drafted with AI help. Guides and explainers are drafted with AI assistance and then checked against the sources listed on each page. Each guide says how it was made at the end.
- Illustrations, not photos of real things. The pictures at the top of some guides were generated with Canva's AI image tools and colour-graded by us. Charts and calculator results are drawn from the numbers on the page.
- No advice, no products. We explain how things work. We don't recommend specific products, and there are no ads, affiliate links or paid placements on this site.
Corrections
If you spot an error on this site or in a lesson, email hello@scrollfinance.app with the page and what's wrong. Corrections to this site go live when they're made and move the page's "Updated" date (calculator pages also list them in their update log); lesson corrections ship in the next app update.
How Scroll makes money
From Scroll Plus subscriptions, and nothing else. The free plan has no time limit. There's no advertising, and we don't sell or rent personal data. The calculators on this site run in your browser and don't send what you type anywhere.
